  2. An image of one of the moths installed in the area to represent Amy Johnson.
The first female pilot to fly from England to Australia. Prior to Amy, female pilots were typically those of title. Raised in Hull with her 3 younger sisters, she arrived in Australia on the 24th May (19 days after leaving the UK) to crowds of people celebrating her achievement. Amy had a varied flying career from then on, setting new records and making new journeys. As part of the Amy Johnson Festival in 2016, 'A Moth for Amy' saw 59 moth sculptures installed across Hull, East Yorkshire and key national locations to mark the 75th Anniversary of her untimely death. Click to find out where the moths are now.
