The Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival was established in 1988 to celebrate this glorious county town’s historic association with musicians from medieval times. Blessed by a wealth of extraordinarily rich ecclesiastical buildings, and a wealth of musical carvings in stone & wood in both Beverley Minster and St Mary’s Church, Beverley is the perfect place for a festival of early music. Supported by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and administered by the National Centre for Early Music, the festival draws in residents and visitors alike to its annual series of concerts, illustrated lectures and associated workshops.
The 2022 festival opens with a sparkling programme of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos presented by Florilegium in Beverley Minster. On Saturday we welcome the newly appointed BBC New Generation Baroque Ensemble – Ensemble Moliere – to the stage and on Sunday we are delighted to be able to host husband and wife duo Richard Egarr and Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya in a programme of JC Bach and Mozart. Our weekend is completed by Robert Hollingworth’s I Fagiolini taking us back to the English Renaissance with the music of John Wilbye. Full details will be available in the new year.
