Birds Books and Belfries Exhibition Poster

About

East Riding Museums latest exhibition features the work of  East Yorkshire Parson-Naturalist Reverend Francis Orpen Morris (1810 - 1893) who combined his work for the Church of England with studying nature and campaigning for wildlife.

This exhibition centres on the beautiful natural history books held in East Riding Archives which were written by Morris and printed by Benjamin Fawcett of Driffield. There are also loans from a private collector including the first Morris and Fawcett book collaborations, correspondence with Randolph Churchill about bird conservation and rare monthly-published book sections. Contemporary film footage of the bird colonies at RSBP Bempton Cliffs shows the habitats which Morris was passionate about protecting.
