Save the date for the largest heritage festival in England!
See the full list of events taking place in Beverley and the surrounding area below!
Heritage Open Days are back, 9th – 18th September 2022 with thousands of events arranged for you to enjoy across the UK. All the events are FREE with Hull, Beverley and surrounding area having one of the largest selection of things to do and see.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2000 local people and local organisations. Last year, even in partial lockdown three quarters of a million visits were recorded. This September thousands of people will come together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It’s a chance to visit hidden places and try out new experiences – AND IT’S ALL FREE.
Beverley has taken part in the Festival since 2014, and works in partnership with Hull to open buildings and gardens, organise walks, talks and promote special events. Held every September (this year 9-18 September), Beverley and District Civic Society put on around 30 events with the help of wonderful volunteers, and attracted last year more than 9000 visits. There is a different theme each year, set by London HQ, and in 2022 it is ‘Astounding Inventions’. Beverley has chosen its amazing Georgian gas street lamp posts dating from 1824, which we believe to be the oldest surviving in the world. Lots of other places to visit – look at the online website or in the printed programme due in summer and decide what you would like to do…. Look out for our pink banners around town, and the bunting and a Big Red H on places to visit.
Keep an eye on this page for events in East Yorkshire as they are announced. For events in Hull, please see the Visit Hull page.
