About the Walking Festival
What is the Walking East Yorkshire Festival?
The Walking East Yorkshire Festival is an annual celebration of walking and being outdoors in East Yorkshire, offering a programme of guided walks across the region’s countryside, coastline, towns and villages.
When does the festival take place?
The festival takes place across nine days between Saturday 12th and Sunday 20th September 2026. Individual walks run on selected dates throughout this period.
Where does the festival take place?
Walks and events take place across East Yorkshire, including coastal locations, the Yorkshire Wolds, market towns and rural villages.
Who is the festival for?
The festival is open to everyone, from casual walkers to experienced hikers. There are walks of varying lengths, difficulty levels and themes.
Booking and tickets
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, booking is recommended as many walks have limited spaces and can fill up quickly. There are also a number of walks led by the Ramblers where you are welcome to just turn up on the day.
How do I book a walk?
You can browse all available walks on our ‘Whats on’ page. Each individual event listing will have full information about booking, this will vary between events and organisers.
Are the walks free?
Some walks are free, while others may have a small fee depending on the walk, guide or location.
Can I cancel or change my booking?
Yes, we ask for as much notice as possible for a cancellation and booking fees are non-refundable. Where 7 days’ notice is given, we may attempt to re-sell your place. This however cannot be guaranteed.

The programme includes a range of guided walks such as:

How long are the walks?
Walks vary in length, from short, gentle strolls to longer, more challenging routes. Please see event listings on the ‘whats on’ page for further details.
How do I know if a walk is suitable for me?
Each walk listing includes as much detail as possible on distance, duration, terrain and difficulty level to help you choose the right walk. If you require further information, please get in touch.
Are there self-guided walks?
Some routes may be suitable for self-guided exploration, these will be noted.

Accessibility and suitability
Are the walks suitable for beginners?
Yes, many walks are designed for beginners or those looking for a relaxed pace. Walks are graded gentle, moderate and strenuous to help you check your suitability.
Gentle walks are suitable for most levels of fitness. Short countryside and town walks mainly on flat paths.
Moderate walks are suitable for average fitness. Countryside walks with a few gradients and sometimes steps. Boots recommended.
Strenuous walks are suitable for those with a good level of fitness. Countryside walks with steep gradients, steps or rough terrain. Boots essential.

Are the walks accessible?

Can children take part?
Yes, many walks are family-friendly. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Are dogs allowed on the walks?
Dogs are welcome on some walks but not all. Please check the walk listing before booking. Where dogs are allowed this will be stipulated, otherwise we ask that dogs are left at home. Please contact us if you have an assistance dog.
Practical information
What happens if the weather is bad?
Walks will usually go ahead in most weather conditions, but in extreme circumstances, they may be cancelled for safety. You will be contacted if this happens.
Is parking available?
Parking availability varies by location. Details will be provided with each walk listing or booking confirmation.
Are there toilet facilities?
Facilities vary depending on the walk location. There are also a number of council public toilets located across East Yorkshire.
Can I bring food and drink?
Yes, we recommend you keep hydrated by bringing cold/hot drinks on all walks. Check the individual walk description and length of walk. Many of the longer walks stop for a mid-morning drink and snack as well as a packed lunch stop.
What shall I wear?
Please wear suitable clothes for walking. Check weather conditions before making your choice. Waterproofs, sunhats, suncream all recommended depending on the weather. Sturdy shoes/trainers or walking boots for longer walks.
Do I need proof of purchase?
Where possible please bring your proof of purchase/ booking confirmation to the event. We may not need to ask for them unless we are oversubscribed.
When do I need to arrive?
Please arrive at the event at least 10 minutes before the start time. There will be an event leader to meet you whatever the weather. In unsafe conditions a safety assessment will be made and a decision may be taken to cancel the event if necessary.
