Walking is free and a fabulous way to explore the stunning coast and countryside here. Whether you want an easy morning stroll in the country that ends in a cosy country pub for lunch or a full day of challenging hiking along rugged cliff tops spotting birds as you go, we have a route to suit you and all the family.  

 

Yorkshire Wolds Way

The Yorkshire Wolds Way is a beautiful National Trail that spans the entirety of this crescent shaped piece of countryside. Having recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, the 79 miles trail is a challenge but the views over rolling hills and dry, chalk valleys are certainly worth every step. If something shorter is for you, there are plenty of short circular routes from charming villages and towns, that still incorporate the beautiful countryside views but also finish at a local country pub serving delicious home cooked meals.

 

Town trails

What better way to explore the region’s towns than by following a trail? Explore the best, the hidden and the historical through the many trails available and not only learn more about the area but enjoy the varied architecture and views of the pretty market towns of East Yorkshire. All this discovery is certain to build up your appetite so it’s a good job you’re in prime place to enjoy one of the many local cafes, pubs and restaurants to rest and refuel.

 

Coastal walks

Take a seaside stroll along the promenades in Bridlington, Hornsea or Withernsea, and enjoy the calm of the sea lapping on the shore without getting the sand between your toes. Explore East Yorkshire’s ruggedly beautiful coastline on a clifftop walk from Bempton to Sewerby, taking in the dramatic cliffs at Bempton, the coves of Flamborough and the wide-open bays of Bridlington. You can take on the whole 12 miles of the Headland Way or choose something shorter. The King Charles III England Coast path is a coastal path that will, when complete, will encircle the entire English coastline. In East Yorkshire, the Filey to Bridlington section is now open to walkers, with the route along the the southern half of the East Yorkshire Coast due to open in the future. 

 

There are literally hundreds of walks to do in this region along miles of beautiful trails that will take you across rolling fields, up challenging hills, through vibrant woodland, along calming rivers and into busy market towns. So, find your favourite walking shoes, pick the route that suits you best, step outside and take a deep breath of fresh Yorkshire air as you begin to explore this diverse and wonderful region.
