Easter events in East Yorkshire

Easter is the perfect time to get outdoors, and make the most of those lighter, brighter days. Whether you’re planning a fun family day out, a meet‑up with friends, or simply looking for ways to keep the kids busy over the school holidays, East Yorkshire has plenty going on. From classic egg hunts to quirky outdoor adventures, you’re sure to have a cracking Easter!

From the traditional to the unexpected, there are so many ways to celebrate. Easter trails are always a hit, but you’ll also find medieval jousting, alpaca trekking, movie marathons, and even play dates with the Easter Bunny at William’s Den. You could also head to RSPB Bempton Cliffs for their special Easter activity programme and spot the returning puffins while you’re there. With so much choice, keeping the kids entertained through the Easter holidays is easy‑peasy.

Easter egg hunts and trails

No Easter break feels complete without a good old‑fashioned egg hunt. Luckily, East Yorkshire is full of brilliant places to explore. Wander through walled gardens, woodland paths, and landscaped estate grounds as your little adventurers search for clues, solve puzzles, and (hopefully!) find a chocolate treat at the end.

Hotels, stately homes, and family-friendly attractions across the region put on beautifully themed trails each year, often with extra activities, crafts, and tasty treats in the on‑site cafés once you’ve finished exploring.

Family-friendly activities

If you’re looking for days out that go beyond the usual egg hunts, there are plenty of family‑friendly Easter activities across East Yorkshire:

  • Outdoor adventure play: Places like William’s Den, Woldies, and Let Loose! offer indoor and outdoor fun perfect for burning off energy during the school holidays.
  • Animal experiences: From alpaca trekking to springtime farm encounters, Easter is a brilliant time for little ones to get close to nature. Many local farms offer bottle‑feeding sessions, lambing events, or meet‑the‑animals days.
  • Nature walks and trails: With spring in full swing, East Yorkshire’s nature reserves, country parks, and coastal paths are perfect for an easy family walk. Keep an eye out for early wildflowers, birdlife, and puffins returning to RSPB Bempton Cliffs.
  • Craft sessions and workshops: Museums and libraries often run Easter craft days where children can paint eggs, make decorations, or create their own spring‑themed artwork.
  • Rainy-day options: If the weather turns, local cinemas, leisure centres, and soft play venues offer budget‑friendly indoor activities to keep the whole family entertained. Discover some of our favourite rainy day activities for children.

Medieval jousting at Sewerby Hall

Easter at Sewerby Hall can only mean one thing… medieval jousting! This hugely popular annual event takes place every Easter Sunday and is a brilliant way to kick off spring. Come along to see England’s number one jousting team in action, complete with dramatic battles, gleaming armour, and around 20 skilled riders and horses. It’s a real spectacle and always a highlight of Sewerby Hall’s Easter celebrations.

Aside from jousting and sword fighting there is a packed programme of Easter events to join in with including an appearance from the Easter bunny himself.

So what are you waiting for? Hop to it and enjoy a very happy East Yorkshire Easter!
