Breakfast and brunch spots

If you’re looking for a proper vegan breakfast or a relaxed vegetarian brunch spot where plant-based dishes take centre stage rather than being an afterthought, Beverley is a great place to start.

WILD Organic Eatery is a must if you love colourful plates, wholesome ingredients and food that actually makes you feel good. This independent organic café has a strong focus on plant-based and vegetarian cooking - think vegan pancakes, tofu scramble, avocado on toast and creative breakfast bowls that feel thoughtful rather than token.

Central 42 is another great Beverley option, with solid vegetarian breakfast choices including build-your-own breakfast wraps, omelettes and pastries. They're not fully plant-based but genuinely good on veggie options and right in the heart of town.

Find your perfect plant-based spot

Plant-based lunch and dinner

Whether you’re craving vegan comfort food, globally inspired dishes or bold small plates, East Yorkshire’s food scene has plenty to offer. From plant-based burgers to Indian street food with loads of veggie options, these are the places that make plant-based eating a real pleasure.

Junk Soul Smothered in Beverley is a fully vegan bar and kitchen loved for its plant-based burgers and loaded fries. It's the kind of food that’s so good you genuinely wouldn’t guess it’s all vegan.

For something more global, Mowgli Street Food brings fresh, vibrant Indian flavours with loads of vegan and vegetarian dishes to choose from. Inspired by Indian home cooking and street-style plates, many of its curries and small plates are naturally meat-free or clearly marked for vegans.

Down on the coast, The Nut and Nettle located in the Queen’s Hotel in Bridlington Old Town is one of the region’s most beloved plant-based eateries with a fully vegan menu of seasonal dishes, regular supper clubs and a cake selection that’s become something of a local legend. More on them shortly.

Vegan fish and chips

You can’t visit East Yorkshire without thinking about fish and chips, especially along the coast. The good news is that you don’t have to miss out if you’re vegan or vegetarian.

Tucked into the coastal village of Flamborough, Lighthouse Fisheries is one of the finest fish and chip shops in the country, named in the top 10 takeaways at the National Fish and Chip Awards in 2024, having won Best Newcomer at the same awards the year before. And they cater brilliantly for plant-based visitors, with vegan options including pies, vegan 'saveloy' and their vegan 'fish' and chips with vegan tartare sauce. Grab it to take away, find a spot by the sea and tuck in.

Coffee, cakes and sweet treats

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, or you’re just serious about your coffee, East Yorkshire has some brilliant independent spots with vegan cakes, doughnuts and dairy-free drinks. Gemini Chocolate in Beverley is one of the county’s most distinctive finds - a small, independent bean-to-bar chocolate maker crafting award-winning organic vegan chocolate from Peruvian cacao. Stop in for a coffee alongside a piece of something genuinely special.

Snakebite Coffee, also in Beverley, takes both its coffee and its baking seriously. As an independent coffee roaster their beans are excellent and their cakes, pastries and doughnuts are all vegan. A brilliant example of how East Yorkshire’s café scene is quietly raising its game.

And it wouldn’t be right to talk about vegan sweet treats without another mention of The Nut and Nettle in Bridlington. Their cakes and desserts have become something of a local legend, from pretty tarts decorated with edible flowers to basque cheesecake and seasonal sponge cakes. A proper feast for the eyes and the stomach.
