A Sunday roast has got to be one of the highlights of the week, hasn’t it? Crispy roast potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire puddings and lashings of proper gravy – it’s comfort food at its best. Whatever the season, come rain or shine, you’ll find us tucked away in cosy pub corners tucking into our favourite meal of the week, which has long been a great British tradition.

But where to head when you fancy letting someone else do the cooking (and the washing up)? East Yorkshire’s excellent food scene means you’re spoilt for choice. So, let’s go ahead and explore some of the best Sunday lunches our region has to offer.

Beverley Arms

Back to Top of List

Located in the historic heart of Beverley, the team of chefs at the Beverley Arms cook up fabulous weekly roasts with a choice of different cuts, crispy roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and homemade gravy. But it’s their enormous Yorkshire puddings that bring us back time and time again.

Their light and airy open plan dining area helps to create the perfect ambience and if you’re lucky enough to be seated near the huge windows which look out onto North Bar Within, you’ll enjoy gorgeous views of the magnificent St Mary’s Church whilst you’re tucking into your roast.

Indulge in the timeless tradition of a Sunday roast at the Triton Inn, a beautiful country pub in the picturesque village of Brantingham. Snuggle up in a cosy corner next to their open fire for truly relaxing weekend vibes. Their menu is created from fresh, locally sourced ingredients and roast topside of beef, rolled and stuffed belly pork and roast chicken are the stars of the show each Sunday. Sides include beef dripping roasties, sage and onion stuffing, roast vegetables and you can choose to add cauliflower cheese too (oh go on then, you’ve twisted my arm)!

The traditional village of Brantingham is the perfect place for a walk to work up your appetite and you’ll find plenty of footpaths and bridleways providing access to the stunning Yorkshire Wolds.

There’s a kids play area outside and the pub is dog friendly too, making Sundays here a real family affair.

Manchot Tapas Bar and Restaurant

Back to Top of List

For a different take on Sunday lunch, check out Manchot which is just a short walk from Bridlington’s 900-year-old working harbour. Offering a tapas Sunday lunch, you get to choose all your favourite bits and it’s great for social gatherings as you can share with friends and family (if you can bear to share, that is)! Choose a ‘main event’ such as toad in the hole, the roast of the day or a delicious homemade pie and then choose which ‘sidekicks’ you fancy. All the usual suspects are there – pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, Yorkshire puddings, roast potato, mashed potato, a great selection of veggies and cauliflower cheese. With such a great choice, the hard part is narrowing down what to order. Or you could just take one of everything, of course!

Well behaved dogs are welcome and no doubt will be happy to help finish off any leftovers.

The Old Lamp Room

Back to Top of List

You’ll find the Old Lamp Room in an usual position, on a platform at Cottingham train station. Once an old station storeroom, its owners have lovingly transformed it into a cute and quirky eatery with a reputation for great food.

Step inside the small but perfectly formed restaurant and you’ll be greeted with plenty of cosy nooks to sit in, fairy lights and eclectic decoration (we especially love the big fake zebra head that hangs above the fireplace)!

Roast beef, pork and chicken are all available each Sunday, as is a vegetarian option and they come with all the trimmings you’d expect. We recommend that you leave room for dessert when visiting The Old Lamp Room as their cakes are pretty legendary and the perfect way to finish off your meal.

This is an extremely busy little place so it’s always better to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
